Chill Mail Scarf

This Chill Mail scarf is an upcycled, wearable personal radiator that can cool you down on a hot day. By harnessing the power of evaporative cooling, Chill Mail moves heat away from your body.  This small scarf is the perfect size to drape over your shoulders or wrap around your head and neck.  Simply dampen the scarf to activate the cooling power.  When it starts to dry out, recharge with another splash of water!

Made from a blend of mostly linen thread with some silk stranded in for a softer hand and elegant drape.  The linen was sourced from a family of weavers in the Midwest USA who did a studio clear-out and sold off all their odd lots.  The silk came from a Coldwater Creek sweater that I unraveled row by row, salvaging the gorgeous, elegnat threads.  I plied the two fibers together for this piece, crocheting the rows horizontally, and binding the entire thing in a row of single crochet around the outside edge.

Measuring 56″ long by 8″ wide (448 square inches). I recommend washing this one by hand or on the gentle cycle, due to the silk content (I have already prewashed it, to be 100% certain that the silk I used is washable.). Size small.
