The Rachel Chore Coat is a boxy, loose fit, open-front chore coat with a shawl collar and patch pockets. Here, I have made it with a vintage “Trip Around the World” quilt in shades of forest green, burgundy, and maize. Some tricky stitching was involved to preserve the original corners and edges of the quilt, to show off the zigzag border. I cut a long dart from the collar to the waist so that the edges of the quilt would curve to the body. The backing of the quilt is a riotous paisley that perfectly coordinates with all the shades of the quilt. The binding is hand-stitched, and it is hand-quilted.

This coat is machine-washable and dryable. Inside, I have bound all the seams with bias tape, which prevents fraying and makes these coats extremely durable. This quilt is well-loved, and shows one area that is going a little threadbare. Please see close-up photo of shoulder area.

This is a size extra large, with a 50″ bust. The drop-shoulder measures 27″ wide, with a 19″ sleeve. It is 35″ long at center back. Currently, this quilt has no front closure. A hook and eye or button and loop may be added at no charge.
