There is a bit of tricky stitching going on with this Penny Lane coat! The zigzag edging is continuous all the way around the bottom hem. To accomplish this, I cut the whole body of the coat in one piece of fabric, which I then shaped to fit with six exceptionally long darts. The collar and sleeves are separate pieces. All the inside seams are bound with bias tape, to show off the quality of my workmanship, and to make this coat very long-wearing and durable. You can feel comfortable tossing this coat in the washing machine and dryer when you feel it needs to be freshened up. It will put up with years of hard wear and still be ready to pass on to the next generation.

Warm greens and rich burgundies are accented with cream, ecru, and maize in this classic “Trip Around the World” patterned quilt. It is hand-quilted and backed with a bold paisley print cotton.

The Penny Lane coat is a classic fit-and-flare single-breasted A-line coat with a wide, pointed shawl collar. The sleeves are finshed with cuffs that show off more of that zigzag edging. This one is a size medium, with a 37″ bust, 35″ waist, and 42″ hip. The shoulder is 14″ with a 25″ sleeve. It measures 37″ at center back.
